New Committee Appointments
I'm pleased to announce that I'll be joining the Dane County Housing Authority, the Madison Area Transportation Planning Board (MATPB or MPO), and the Youth Commission as the county supervisor representation. This week was dominated by our MATPB meeting.
We started out with a tour of Madison Metro, which showed an incredibly efficient service squeezing into a very tight space. The picture above is a Madison Metro bus from 1934.
Next, we tackled a thorny area around ownership of two city/county roads. The MATPB is working on the negotiation between the County and the City of Madison on the ownership of Buckeye and Cottage Grove Roads. We're eager to fix these roads, take care of the young students and parents walking towards Allis School, and work together with the city. As the sign on the walls of the meeting room read, and Supervisor Jamie Kuhn pointed out, "teamwork is the ability to work together towards a common vision.” These roads aren't safe, reliable, or sufficient for the type of traffic on that road, and it would be a huge disservice to push this repair to 2022/2023. Stay tuned as we figure out a solution together.
Finally, we received a presentation on the MATPB Rideshare Program. If you haven't heard of this before, check it out at https://www.rideshareetc.org/rp2/Home/Home. This is a great way to carpool with neighbors and reduce our individual automobile traffic. 1,100 new people signed up last year, and there are around 4,100 active registrants overall.
Thanks for reading, stay tuned for more!
